Hello San Diego!
A special shout-out for the final concert in the Center for World Music's Music on the Move series. The concert on Saturday will take place at the City Heights/Weingart Library and Performance Annex. The program includes a musical ensemble representing the Thai-Lao and Cambodian communities of San Diego and featuring traditional instruments and dance. The Karen Organization of San Diego will present the traditional dance of the Karen people of Burma (Myanmar). And the Chamorro community, the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands, will be represented by community members and live performances by the Island Mist and Imahen Taotao Tano Dancers. The concert is free, check it out!
The San Diego County Fair continues at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Friday (Today), Don Carlos will perform at the Beach House Grill. Grupo Frontera will perform at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Chilean Deep House artist Massiande will perform at Camino Riviera.
Saturday and Sunday, at the Broadway Pier, the 2nd Annual West Coast Hot Sauce Experience will happen.
Saturday, Warwick's will host online Hazel Gaynor as she discusses her new book, The Last Lifeboat. At the Central Library, culinary historian Richard Foss will present Three Thousand Years of Spanish Food in One Hour. At Mira Mesa Community Park, the San Diego Lao Food Festival is sure to have scrumptious offerings to enjoy. The Cooper Family Juneteenth Celebration will take place in Memorial Park. The 6th annual Axis Juneteenth Celebration will take place outdoors at the Old Globe in Balboa Park. The San Diego Shakespeare Society will perform at the San Diego Museum of Art for enhancing viewing of old masters' art on exhibit in the museum. The Center for World Music continues its Music on the Move series with a concert in City Heights featuring community artists representing Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma (Myanmar), and the& Mariana Islands (Guam, Saipan, Tinian & Rota). The Carlsbad Community Church will host a South of the Border music event. The House of Puerto Rico Lawn Program will celebrate with their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. The documentary Unsung Heroes will be shown at Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library. Tijuana-based Psychedelic instrumental funk jazz trio, Adeumazel will perform at Duck Foot Brewing. Persian duo Kamran & Hooman will perform at the Balboa Theatre. At Music Box, you can see, hear and enjoy Los Nuevos Reyes Del Reggaeton. Banda Sinaloense Los Nuevos Santa Rosa Y Toro Pesado will perform live at La Sinaloense Bar & Grill.
Sunday, there will be a Juneteenth Celebration at Park & Market. Just up the street from there at the Worldbeat Center there will be a Black Biz Flea Market in honor of Juneteenth. The House of Denmark will hold their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. Afrodiaspora Celebration Day 2.1 will take place at the Quartyard. At the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, Opera Neo will an Aria Gala featuring up-and-coming opera artists. There will be a contemporary theatrical exploration of The Merchant of Venice at the JCC.
Monday, there will be a Juneteenth-themed Comedy Show at Adams Avenue Theater.
Tuesday and Wednesday, you can sample a range of culinary offerings at a Taste of Little Italy.
Tuesday, the animated film Encanto will be shown at the Serra Mesa - Kearny Mesa Branch Library. The documentary on Black gay life Tongues Untied will screen at the Digital Gym. At the Coronado Library, there will be a staged reading of The Taming of the Shrew.
Wednesday and Thursday, the Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki film The Wind Rises will be shown at the Angelica Film Center.
Wednesday, the film Nayak - The Hero will be shown at the Coronado Library. The 22nd Klezmer Summit featuring Yale Strom & Elizabeth Schwartz, Farhad Bahrami, Coral MacFarland Thuet, Robert Zelickman, and Fred Benedetti. Should be fun!
Next Thursday, the Italian Film Festival will show the documentary Ennio: The Maestro at La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas. You can celebrate Brazilian culture and music at Summer Vibes Brazil at the Holding Company. Los Caimanes De Sinaloa, Tapy Quintero, and Banda Coloso will be performing at Music Box.
Next Saturday and Sunday, the annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games will return to Brengle Terrace Park in Vista. At Art on 30th, there will be a 2-day Art Workshop on German Abstractionism.
Next Saturday, the First Annual Raza Fest will take place at Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park. The Music en le Calle festival at Tierra Central on University Avenue will feature Irving Flores Latin Jazz, Opera de Tijuana, NaruwanTaiko Drumming, Akayaa Atule & Bolga Zohdoomah, Tracy Lee Nelson, and more. Arraiá do Portal at Estacionamento Clairemont Fellowship will be a celebration of Brazilian Culture featuring food, music, and dance. A 2nd Annual Celebracion Mexicana will take place at Legacy Pavilion Theater in Mission Valley. A Pachanga de Frida event will take place at the LGBT Community Center. At El Cajon's Magnolia Theatre, the Wilayat Batikh Iraqi Sketch Comedy Show will take place. Grupo Marca Registrada will perform at the Civic Theatre.
Next Sunday a Juneteenth Day of Restoration will happen at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. The House of Sweden will hold their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. The Samahan Junior Concert of Philippine Dances & Music will take place at Clairemont High. At the Dance House, there will be an Afro-Cuban Orisha Workshop.
Local theatrical productions include Destiny of Desire at the Old Globe in Balboa Park, and Oliver! at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and Twelfth Night at the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre at the Old Globe.
